Market Notes: Memorial Day Weekend at the Farmers’ Market

by Cathy on May 29, 2012

The opening bell will ring in a few minutes at my farmers’ market and its time for a quick walk through before the aisles start filling up with people.  In 30 minutes all the beautiful displays will start to change shape as determined shoppers work their way down their shopping lists. So come along with me for a quick look at what’s in this week’s market. I love all the beautiful displays of fresh produce. You can see the pride that the growers take in what they grow and bring to the market each week.

Beaverton Farmers Market Cauliflower

You can find these vegetables in DeNoble Farm’s booth. Tom’s farm is on the Oregon coast in Tillamook and he makes the 2 hours drive to Beaverton every Saturday.

Beaverton Farmers Market carrots and beets

Beaverton Farmers Market Pacific Pie Co.

There are many booths in the market that serve prepared foods so, whether you are in the mood for breakfast or lunch, you will find something that suits your taste.  I often buy a hot meat pie at Pacific Pie Company.

Beaverton Farmers Market Pacific Pie Co.

Their pies can be purchased steaming hot and ready to eat or frozen so customers can take them home to their own freezers. The beef and mushroom and Sunday roast lamb are my favs.

Beaverton Farmers Market Popcorn

I love popcorn so this will be on my shopping list very soon.

The market has many flower vendors who bring gorgeous handing baskets, bedding plants, vegetable starts, herbs, perennials, shrubs and trees to the market each week.  The hanging baskets on Saturday were amazing!  I hope you enjoyed our quick dash through the market.  I always look forward to seeing what’s new that I absolutely have to buy.  This week asparagus is at the top of my list.  I found a booth with the big, fat spears that are my favorite.

Hi Cathy, I could spend hours at this market. I adore farmers’ markets, especially when they have such delicious and different items. I wonder if they would ship frozen pies?? Have a wonderful week. xo

I enjoyed you quick walk through, Cathy. I have always said that I think your market is one of the best. Great photos but you left out one…actually the most important. There is no photo of your stand.

WOW! Really enjoyed your trip to your market; ours is much smaller and it will be a while yet before it opens.

I love to see the pictures of your Farmer’s Market! The radishes look so bright and fresh and those meat pies – oh yummy (and not a bad price!) I would have a hard time picking one.

I really like the colored cauliflower, especially since it’s less work to grow than the white. Your nuts were a hit at the blogger party and thanks again for sending them – maybe next year you can just bring them with you.

Your market is soooo much more sophisticated that our country Saturday market here. Wish we had the variety of vendors that you do.

Thanks for the nuts you sent to the east Tennessee blogger get-together at Larry’s. We had the time of our lives. Wish you could have joined us, but you were there in spirit. Hope to meet you some day.

HI!

Wanted to especially thank you for thinking of the group that went to Larry’s for the weekend. Great surprise to see your nuts. This year I won the award for the furthest drive… Next year we expect you to compete for the honor!

Hi Dave – thanks so much for coming to visit. It sounds like Larry’s party was a huge success. Next year I would love to win the honor of having come the farthest to attend! Bev would have to show me how to eat crawfish.
