Muy Bueno Cookbook Review and Giveaway

by Cathy on October 3, 2012

This is week #3 and the last post in the MUY BUENO Cookbook Spotlight and Review hosted by my friend Heather at girlichef.  I have spent the past several weeks becoming acquainted with the book’s authors, Yvette Marquez-Sharpnack, Veronica Gonzales-Smith and Evangelina Soza as I read about their family history and the treasured family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.  My dearest recipes are those from my grandmother and mother and I can feel the passion of the authors as they share their family’s recipes with us.

MUY BUENO  offers over 100 recipes in thirteen chapters that include Tamales, Breads, Salsas, Drinks, Appetizers, Soups, Desserts, and more. Also included is a chili glossary with photos and step-by-step instructions for roasting chilies and making red chili sauce.  I am lucky to have a wonderful Mexican grocery store in my town and am looking forward to experimenting with all the beautiful chilies that are available there.  The easy to follow family style recipes and the beautiful photographs that accompany each one inspire me to try some Mexican dishes that I never thought I could make at home.  You will be seeing more recipes from this book on my blog in the coming weeks as I work my way down my list of must try dishes.  As I read the wonderful family stories in this cookbook I can almost hear Jesusita, the grandmother, saying to her friends and family “Siéntate a comer, esta muy bueno! (Sit down and eat, it’s very good!)

Week #1 ~ Mushroom, Jalapeno and Cilantro Salsa

Week #2 ~  Coconut Flan

If you would like to have an opportunity to win a copy of this beautiful cookbook just leave a comment on this post.  You can increase your chances by visiting my first two posts in the MUY BUENO Cookbook Showcase featuring MUSHROOM, JALAPENO AND CILANTRO SALSA and COCONUT FLAN. Please be sure to leave your blog or email address so, if you win, I can contact you.  The winner will receive their cookbook directly from the publisher, Hippocrene.  US entries only, please.   All of the PARTICIPANTS in the Muy Bueno Cookbook Spotlight and Cook-Off are hosting book giveaways this week so if you visit them and leave a comment on their posts you will have additional chances to win. The giveaway on this post will end on October 8th at 1:00 pm PST.  Muy Bueno: Three Generations of Authentic Mexican Flavor is now available at local retailers and on Amazon.

This post is part of the Muy Bueno Cookbook Spotlight & Cook-Off sponsored by Hippocrene and hosted at girlichef.  I received a free copy of the cookbook for review purposes.  All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

That coconut flan is stunning! I’ve been sitting on a flan recipe like that given to me by a Guatamalan friend maybe 20 years ago that I have yet to make. Seeing your gorgeous flan has me digging out the recipe…

One of these days, girlfriend, I’m going to show up unannounced on your doorstep with a fork in one hand and an empty plate in the other which I’m going to beg you to fill for me! Just be thankful you live on the other side of the country, Cathy, or I’m not kidding, I would CAMP on your doorstep.

This looks like a super cookbook, and those recipes. YUM!

I’m off to have supper.

XO,

Sheila

I have enjoyed the recipes that you’ve featured, from this cookbook. The flan looks perfect, Cathy! I love flan, and coconut would be a fantastic version. Gorgeous photo, but that’s status quo with you. I’d enjoy reading through this cookbook and making Mexican food– which is one of my favorites (next to my heritage German food).
